Lifestyle: The Benefits of Drinking Water

Friday, 27 May 2016

It's recommended that you should drink 8 glasses of water a day. I know eight glasses seems an incredibly hard thing to achieve - yet I can go through 4 cups of tea in a few hours easily.
I set myself a challenge to up my intake of water for a week and see if I have any benefits from it.
I'm not a big drinker in general I don't often feel thirsty and that must mean I'm hydrated right?
Apparently not the main benefits I found from having at least 4 glasses (I couldn't manage 8) of water a day:

I felt like I had more energy and not as lethargic as normal. I could actually easily get up in a morning and I am most definitely not a morning person.
I felt more awake/alert. Normally it gets to about 1pm on a work day and I have to resist the urge to doze at my desk. While drinking water more often I didn't have these periods of almost crashing tiredness.

Clearer skin. I can honestly say my skin has never been so clear! It has also never stayed clear for such a long period normally I'd have at least one breakout or a spot that would pop up inconveniently.
Water does not stain your teeth. I have teeth that stain very easily which is probably something to do with my tea addiction. Since I've replaced some of my cups of tea a day with a glass of water I've noticed my teeth are whiter than normal.
So even if you don't feel thirsy or dehydrated it does not mean that you are not.
Maybe 8 glasses is abit over optimistic but try upping your water intake per day and see what difference it makes.
You can even add fruit to give it a bit of flavour - my personal favourite is strawberries.
Thanks for Reading!

  1. You should also take in account the water consumption from food. A company called Herbal Life are great with a balanced diet. Overall, lovely post and stay hydrated! ;)
